Webster says resignation due to health

Human Services Minister Jennifer Webster yesterday said that her resignation from the government was entirely due to health reasons.

She told Stabroek News that she had not known that it was being alleged on social media that she was the subject of an international investigation and that that was the real reason for her departure.

“I don’t know about that, I don’t know that I am under any investigation and that I think I have been mixed up,” Webster lamented.

She said that her resignation was for the reasons she outlined in her letter to President Donald Ramotar which states that given her health challenge she has chosen to dedicate her time to ensuring her well-being.

She said that from time to time she would hear vile rumours being peddled about her and she dismisses them and focuses on herself and job. She hopes that with time and facts she can be vindicated and her name cleared of any gossip.

“I live a very simple life and I am speaking to you from the depth of my heart. I am not being investigated for anything. People say all kinds of things but I have been praying and I know that with time the truth will prevail,” she said.

Earlier in the day, the government had also said it was unaware of any international probe of any Cabinet minister.

“Not aware of any investigation by any international organisation or country into cabinet members,” Cabinet Secretary, Dr Roger Luncheon said when asked.

“Minister Webster came with a letter or resignation that primarily dealt with the status of her health condition , that she felt and presumably on the basis of medical advice…She plucked down her preference. ‘My health in preference to my job’, and she offered her resignation at the most appropriate time…she said I am giving you heads up,” Luncheon added.
