CANU guards implicated in missing cocaine

Several Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) security guards have been implicated in the disappearance of just under a kilogramme of cocaine and the police have since launched an investigation.

CANU head James Singh yesterday confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the disappearance of 900 grammes of cocaine and that the investigation has been handed over to the police.

He clarified that it security guards were implicated and not field ranks.

Singh would not say if the missing drugs were from the more than 100 kgs recently discovered in a house at Diamond New Housing Scheme. As a result of the bust, which yielded an undisclosed sum of cash and ammunition, Barry Dataram, his girlfriend and two men were detained. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance tomorrow.
