Region Nine farmer remanded on ganja for trafficking charge

A Region Nine farmer was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with having marijuana in his possession for trafficking.

Linden Phillip Rodrigues was charged with having 700 grammes of cannabis.

Rodrigues, 22, of Yurongperu Village, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1. He was allegedly found with the cannabis after he was stopped and searched by police on April 15, in the South Pakaraimas.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Rodrigues to prison and transferred the case to the Lethem Magistrates Court, where it will be called on June 1.
