Cop on the run after accidentally shooting Albouystown girl

An Albouystown girl was yesterday afternoon accidentally shot to her abdomen by a policeman who then fled the scene and two of his colleagues are now under close arrest.

Stabroek News understands that Shequeena Anderson, 19, of Lot 31 Albouys Street, Albouy-stown was shot Russian roulette style after three policemen who are known to her visited her home around 11.50 am. It was after one of the men left to use the washroom and returned that he discovered Anderson lying on the ground. The other two policemen had already fled. She was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hos-pital.

A great-aunt of the injured girl, who preferred not to be named, told Stabroek News that she heard that three policemen who are friends of her niece visited.

The woman said she was told that “one of them asked to use the washroom while the other two did just accompany him and they sit down with Anderson playing with the gun.” She said she was told that Anderson stood up from the chair where she was sitting and told the two policemen, ‘aye, y’all don’t play because guns don’t have ears’, and it was subsequent to this that the shot was fired.

Relatives expressed concern that after the shooting, the policeman ran away, dropped the gun in Sussex Street and has still not been seen.

One of his colleagues who had followed him then picked up the gun and took it to the Brickdam Police station, relatives say.

When this newspaper visited the hospital, Anderson was in the operating theatre.

A police statement yesterday said in part “The rank who is alleged to have discharged the round dropped the firearm and fled the scene and has not yet been located. The other ranks are under close arrest as the investigations continue.”
