US man nabbed with cocaine in photo albums at airport

A 20-year-old American man was yesterday afternoon intercepted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, with just over a kilo of cocaine hidden in his suitcase.

The man was stopped by officers of the Customs and Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) at approximately 3:30 PM yesterday after the thickness of his suitcase’s walls and his own nervous behaviour aroused suspicion.

The drugs, which weighed at approximately 1.085 kilogrammes, were found hidden in the walls of his suitcase as well as the cover of three photo albums and a book he was travelling with.

The man, who was born in the US state of Ohio but has been living in Guyana for the last 11 years, was booked to travel on a Dynamic Airways Flight to the John F. Kennedy Airport.
