On-the-run Bagotville murder suspect accused of terrorising victim’s friend

As police continue a search for Allan Barker, who allegedly stabbed his wife to death on Thursday, a friend of the dead woman yesterday reported that the man called and threatened her.

Barker fled after the fatal stabbing of Donessa Barker, 29, at the Lot 21 Bagotville, West Bank Demerara home of friend Shaneza Clarke, where she had been staying for the past month. The attack occurred just hours after Donessa lodged a complaint with police against her husband over threats he made to her.

Clarke told Stabroek News that Allan Barker called her yesterday to enquire about the condition of his wife. After she informed him that the woman had died, she said, he allegedly accused her of being the cause of her demise and charged that it was her “negligence” which contributed to the woman’s death.

Clarke said she did not understand what the man meant by accusing her of “negligence.” She added that Barker also warned her not to get involved in the affairs of him and his wife and that she “must watch out.”

The threat has since been reported to police, who continued to hunt for the man yesterday.

Donessa Barker, a mother of one, was resting in her bedroom when she was attacked by her husband at about 4PM on Thursday.

Clarke said she was alerted by the woman’s screams, which prompted her to run to the scene just in time to observe Allan Barker jumping out of a window.

Before the attack, the man had been working in the interior and he had communicated to his wife that he was convinced that she was being unfaithful to him.

He had cut the power and attempted to break into the Bagotville home on Wednesday but was thwarted by neighbours.
