APNU+AFC says has big lead after 2,025 Statements of Poll

APNU+AFC presidential candidate David Granger this afternoon said that his group has an unassailable lead after 2025 Statements of Poll have been reviewed as it has 182,176 votes compared to 157,947 votes.

He made the announcement at a press conference shortly after 3.30 pm at the coalition’s headquarters in Alberttown. The building resounded with applause after his announcement.

Granger said he recognised GECOM’s right to declare official results but that the Statements of Poll constituted public information.

The APNU+AFC press release issued after the press conference follows:

TABULATING OF STATEMENT OF POLLS

The APNU+AFC Coalition has been tabulating the statements of polls coming into our operations centre.   The results show (with 88% of the votes) that, in what were formerly PPP/C strong-holds in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara Region, Region No.3; Mahaica-Berbice Region, Region No. 5; and the East Berbice-Corentyne Region, Region No.6, the Coalition has made significant inroads.

In the Demerara–Mahaica Region, Region No. 4 and the Upper Demerara-Berbice Region, Region No. 10, the APNU+AFC Coalition has improved its performance from 2011.

At the present time with 2,025 Statement of Polls counted (or 88%), the APNU+AFC has 182,176 votes, while the PPP/C has 157,947 a variance of 24,229 votes.

The APNU+AFC Coalition, therefore, after careful examination of the results can be seen to have a commanding lead in the polls.  APNU+AFC continues to urge its supporters to remain calm as the official announcement of the results of the elections is awaited.
