Suspect charged with murder of Paradise pensioner

A suspect has been charged with the murder of Essequibo Coast pensioner Richard Etwaroo, who was found dead on the Paradise seashore after going missing.

Khalish Chattergoon was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 1. Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Chattergoon to prison. His next court date is May 19, 2015, at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

Chattergoon is accused of murdering Etwaroo at Paradise, Essequibo Coast, between May 6th and May 7th, 2015. Etwaroo, 69, had left his Paradise home around 3:30AM on May 6th as usual to go and drink with his friends.

He, however, did not return home after a day and his family commenced a search. Etwaroo’s body was subsequently found by his eldest son lying motionless at the seashore.

The family assumed that it was an accident but an autopsy later revealed that Etwaroo died from an incised wound to his neck.
