Accused in Albouystown murder charged after five years on the run

Less than a year after his father was freed of a murder charge, Steve Allicock appeared in a city court charged with the same crime yesterday.

Allicock, who eluded capture for over five years, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 1, where he was accused of murdering Wendell Tappin on December 31st, 2009.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which was read by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Allicock will make his next court appearance on June 17th, in Court 2.

Steve Allicock was previously implicated along with his father Leonard and uncle Randoph Allicock in the murder but he had never been apprehended until earlier this week.

Leonard Allicock walked out of court a free man in September last year, after a jury at the High Court found that he was not guilty of the murder.

The allegation against him was that he murdered Tappin, called ‘Keyco’ 23, a father of two, of Lot 89 La Penitence Street, Albouystown. At the time, the deceased was said to be heading to Hill Street to collect his cell phone when he was attacked and chopped by a group of men.
