Accused in series of robberies freed

A man charged with committing a series of armed robberies last year walked out of a city court a free man yesterday after the charges against him were dismissed for want of prosecution.

Jason Adams, of 58 Lime Street, Werk-en-Rust, was charged with committing a number of armed robberies in the period of October 29th, 2014 to November 2nd, 2014.

Adams was charged with assaulting and attempting to rob one Chinese national as well as robbing another of cash and valuables amounting to over $150,000 in total.

He was also charged with breaking into a stall at Bourda Market and stealing a pair of earrings, valued at $100,000, and four bird cages, valued at $26,000.

Adams was also charged with using a pair of scissors to threaten one of his victims, who, he relieved of $18,000 and a BlackBerry smartphone valued $30,000.

Adams appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 2 some five months ago, where he had faced the allegations. During his arraignment, Adams had threatened to kill one of the complainants.

He was held in custody until the case saw no progress up to yesterday and he was freed.
