Schools in physical display championship

The Ministry of Education is celebrating Guyana’s 49th year of independence with its National Schools Physical Display Championships on June 4-5 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall with an opening ceremony scheduled for 10:00h. According to a press release from the Ministry of Education, the competition will have a total of five hundred participants countrywide in five categories. Primary schools will partake in the jump rope and combination categories while the Secondary school students will compete in the skip be fit, pyramids and combinations categories. Initially, the Physical Display Championship which began with the aim of expanding the scope of physical education in schools and promoting good sportsmanship amongst students and teachers was a part of the Children’s Mashramani events in 1992, the Ministry said, but due to the continuous interest shown over the years it became increasingly difficult to manage as a part of the Mashramani celebrations and as a result it was made an individual event to be celebrated at Independence.

Competition winners in each of the categories will be awarded trophies and prizes. Beverage giants, Banks DIH Limited has sponsored the newly branded “Skip-Be Fit” category of the competition.
