Man gets fine, community service for 1g cannabis

A man was yesterday fined $3,000 and ordered to perform six months of community service after admitting to having a gramme of cannabis.

Keron Jordan, 21, told Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 1 that he was guilty of the charge of narcotics possession.

After Jordan admitted his guilt, the magistrate imposed the fine as well as ordered him to perform six months of community service at the court.

Meanwhile, Ulric Alexander was accused of having three grammes of cannabis in his possession on June 3rd, at Barrack Street, Kingston.

He denied the allegation. Prosecutor Shawn Gonsalves related that Alexander was the driver of motor car PTT 2373, which was stopped by the police.

A search of the car unearthed cannabis, which was concealed in a yellow Ziploc bag, the prosecutor said. There was no objection to bail, which was set at $3,000.

Alexander will make his next court appearance on June 15th, in Court 8&9.
