GDF, Florida National Guard in expert exchange

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) recently concluded a Non Commissioned Officer and Officer Leadership subject matter expert exchange with the US Embassy Security Cooperation Office and the Florida National Guard where they shared best practices in the art of military control.

The seminar, which covered myriad subjects, included troop leading procedures, leaders as counsellors with effective communication, military decision-making processes and Non Commissioned Officer and Officer cohesion in combat for GDF soldiers assigned to all GDF forces, the US Embassy said in a statement. The exchange took place at the GDF Base Camp Stephenson from June 2 – 5.

The Non-Commissioned Officer and Officer Leadership event is part of a connection between the GDF and the Florida National Guard through the State Partnership Program (SPP).

The event was led by CPT Ludger of the Florida National Guard, who is assigned as the training officer with 3/20th Special Forces Group. The event was also facilitated by CPT Gregory Nandlall of the GDF.

“CPT Nandlall was instrumental in the success of this event as he and his team shared a wealth of knowledge with the US Army team,” the statement read, adding that the event was highly successful for both the Florida Army National Guard and the GDF.

The Embassy said the event was scenario driven allowing soldiers to exchange best practices in leadership and thereby setting the stage for future leadership subject matter exchanges in 2016.

It added that next year’s event will focus on improving common understanding of senior noncommissioned officers and warrant officers serving in leadership roles, responsibilities, administrative action, tactics and principles.

The Embassy noted that members of the Florida National Guard have had several opportunities this year to share in SPP events such as Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention, Military Police Civil Disturbance, Intelligence Seminar, Health Administration, and Maritime Counter Narcotics Seminar and that its Bilateral Affairs Officer CPT Fischer plans to conduct four more events this year.
