Three men held after West Demerara robberies

Three men were held yesterday after robberies at Anna Catherina and Hague Backdam on the West Demerara and at least one of the men is believed to have participated in both.

The police say that at about 0545h. yesterday, two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the home of Wazim Khan, 54 years, of Anna Catherina, WCD, through an open door and held him at gunpoint. They took away a video camera and a cell phone and fled.

Later, at about 0915h. yesterday, the police say that four men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, held up Rasheed Ramesh of Hague Backdam at Hague and took away his bicycle.

Ramesh raised an alarm and residents came out in response.

The police say they were informed and also quickly responded and with the assistance of the residents caught three of the men.  An unlicensed .38 revolver with two rounds and the stolen bicycle were recovered.  Efforts are continuing to locate the other perpetrator, the police said.

The three men, one of whom has been identified as being involved in the armed robbery at Anna Catherina, are in police custody.
