Farmer critical after boat collision on Berbice River

A collision late Saturday night between two boats at Fort Nassau on the Berbice River has left a young farmer in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Devon Lindie, 18, underwent surgery yesterday at the medical institution, hours after he was rushed there. He sustained severe head injuries.

Father of the injured teenager, Orlic Lindie related to this newspaper that around 11:00 on Saturday night, one of his other sons had just dropped him home in a boat and left to drop some friends when he heard him yelling and crying for Devon loudly. After inquiring, he was told that Devon had collided with a third boat and had been struck to his forehead. The bleeding teenager was taken to a private hospital in Corentyne, Berbice before being transferred to the GPH where he was up to press time.

The community of Fort Nassau is a close-knit one and the accident has left everyone in distress. Devon is half of a twin and always carries a smile on his face, a resident said.
