Fish vendor accused of trying to net battery

A fish vendor was yesterday charged with attempting to steal a truck battery from B.K International when he appeared in a city court.

Randolph Thompson, 32, of Albouystown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempting to commit a felony, when he appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court 5. He was placed on $75,000 bail.

The father of two denied that on June 12    at Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, with intent to commit a felony, he attempted to steal one truck battery valued $70,000 from the B.K International.

The prosecution’s facts were that on the day in question, around 9:30 hours, the accused was seen by a security guard on duty climbing the fence in the southern corner of the business place.

An alarm was raised and he was seen attempting to steal the truck battery.

He was taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station and later charged.

Prosecutor Simone Payne objected to bail while citing the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the fact that Thompson was apprehended in the yard of the business.

The matter will be called again tomorrow before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
