All vehicles at centre of ministry probe returned – Harmon

Joseph Harmon

Minister of State Joseph Harmon said this morning that all the vehicles at the centre of a transfer of registration scandal have been returned to the Public Service Ministry.

He could not say who returned them but said that three were returned soon after the scandal was made public and by late Friday into Saturday the other five were brought in. The matter is presently being investigated by the police.

“…I did say that the government was prepared to grant a limited amnesty to make sure that persons returned these things and I believe that some people took that very seriously and decided to bring them in”, Harmon said during his weekly post cabinet press briefing.

Former Public Service Minister Jennifer Westford is listed on a document as being one of five persons requesting the transfer of registration for vehicles owned or used by the ministry. There is also a receipt which states that she paid $500, 000 for one of the ministry’s vehicles. She has opted not to defend herself publicly.

However, Delroy Lewis, a driver attached to the ministry has gone public saying that he knows nothing about the scandal and is not a part of it.

Harmon informed too that a $9M black Kia which a vehicle was unaccounted for has also been returned and is currently in use.
