Cops find illegal guns, ganja at Siberia

Ranks from the major crime investigation unit operating out of CID Headquarters, Eve Leary yesterday unearthed two illegal guns and a quantity of cannabis at Siberia, Upper Demerara River and this intelligence-based operation also led to the arrest of four persons including two women.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Stabroek News yesterday that ranks travelled from Georgetown to the Region Ten riverain community where they conducted searches on a number of locations including houses. The operation began around 6 am and lasted for about five hours.

Blanhum informed that a .22 pistol with nine live rounds and a magazine werereportedly found in a room occupied by one of the persons arrested while a .38 revolver without any rounds was found in a mechanic shop located in the same yard. The cannabis was later discovered hidden in a rice bag.

Of recent police have managed to recover a number of illegal firearms. Blanhum told Stabroek News over the weekend that the police have upped their crime fighting initiatives which has seen an increase in mobile patrols, raids, and intelligence-based operations among others.
