Accused carjacker stole car from police station

Accused carjacker Raymond Seenarine was remanded to prison yesterday after a city court heard he allegedly stole a vehicle from the Kitty Police Station and was caught by the police after a high speed chase.

Seenarine pleaded not guilty yesterday to a charge that he stole a $5M vehicle, which was the property of Rishi Lall, on June 27, 2015, at Sheriff Street. He was also accused of stealing the same vehicle from the Kitty Police station on Alexander Street.

According to the prosecution’s case, Lall’s girlfriend was in his vehicle, which was parked on Sheriff Street, when Seenarine subsequently jumped in and drove off. Lall’s girlfriend was forced to jump out. The car was later found and taken to the Kitty Police Station.

However, on the following day, Seenarine allegedly stole the vehicle from the Police Station, after which police officers chased behind him and eventually caught him. He was arrested and charged. It was also stated that Seenarine had escaped from a mental health institution about a month ago.

Seenarine was denied bail and remanded to prison by Magistrate Ann McLennan. His next court date is July 17th.
