Cops nab suspect in Nandy Park slaying

One of the suspects in the recent Nandy Park shooting, in which a man was shot dead and his partner and child were wounded, was arrested on Sunday, according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum.

Blanhum told Stabroek News yesterday that on duty police ranks spotted the suspect in the Stabroek Market area as he was attempting to board a Grove/Diamond minibus. They approached and informed the man that he was wanted for murder, according to Blanhum, who said too that police searched him and recovered an unlicensed 9mm Beretta pistol with 18 matching rounds on his person.

Meanwhile, the search for the two other suspects in the shooting continues, Blanhum said.

On June 21, gunmen pointed their weapons through a bedroom window and riddled Travis Rudder with bullets. His 18-month-old son and the baby’s mother, Mawanza Gill, who were also lying on the bed, were also shot in the attack.

Sources say the house was blasted with bullets for about 15 minutes

According to reports, Rudder, who died on the spot, was lying on top of his baby trying to shield him.

Both the child and his mother have since been discharged from hospital, where they spent several days receiving medical attention.
