Larceny accused gets 6-month sentence after almost 2-year wait for completion of case

A man was sentenced to six months in prison on Wednesday after he was found guilty of being in possession of stolen items belonging to the United States Embassy.

Ryan Waddell was charged with simple larceny after he was accused of stealing a number of items, totalling $813,000 in value, from Amerijet Airlines, on November 25th, 2013, at Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

While Magistrate Leron Daly pointed out that she was not satisfied with the evidence showing that Waddell had stolen the items, she was convinced without a doubt that Waddell was found in possession of items which he knew were stolen.

The trial of Waddell, 24, began on January 21st, 2015 and saw eight witnesses testify. He remained a remanded prisoner since the charge was read against him in late 2013.

After finding him guilty, Magistrate Daly sentenced Waddell to six months in prison, while taking into account the 20 months he had spent already on remand since being charged.
