Bandit believed shot by accomplice during NA supermarket robbery

A bandit is suspected to have been shot by his accomplice last evening while they were carrying out an armed robbery at a New Amsterdam supermarket.

Stabroek News was told that the attack occurred around 7PM at the M. Ali and Son supermarket, located at Main and Pope streets, New Amsterdam, from where the two robbers carted off an undisclosed amount of cash, a licensed firearm belonging to Mohammed Ali, one of the owners, and phone cards.

The men reportedly entered the store, they marched towards Nazmoon Ali, who was in charge of the store at the time, and demanded valuables. Nazmoon did not comply and as a result he was on the receiving end of several gun butts by one of the bandits, while the other man broke into a drawer and removed the cash along with a firearm.

During the attack, one of the men shot at an employee, who dodged the bullet. The shooter is reported to have ended up shooting his accomplice instead. After the bandit was shot, the men hurriedly left the store, leaving a bloody trail behind. The men jumped into a waiting car and escaped. Up to press time last evening, a man has been taken into police custody in connection with the robbery.
