Flood-affected Grove woman offered help to get new wheelchair

Juliet Bobb-Semple, the wheelchair user who was stranded in floodwaters in her Golden Grove home last week, has since been offered assistance.

Bobb-Semple was happy to report that the water from the house has receded and it is currently being cleaned.

She also told this newspaper that after her story was published in Stabroek News, she was contacted by a representative from the Ministry of Social Protection, who offered assistance in obtaining a new wheelchair for her.

Bobb-Semple’s household was among many affected by flooding after last Wednesday’s heavy rainfall. She had said that she had to sit in the wheelchair with her feet in the water as there was no other place for her family to relocate her to at that point in time.

Bobb-Semple, a former staff member of the Office of the President [now Ministry of Presidency], was shot in the foot in 2009 by police officers who were in hot pursuit of a man on Hadfield Street. As a result, she had resorted to using a wheelchair to aide her in moving about her house until one of the wheels was damaged.
