Urgent repairs for Stabroek Market wharf

Yesterday, a delegation from the City Council including Town Clerk Royston King, Acting Mayor Ranwell Jordan, and Junior Garrett, member of the Council’s Finance committee, met with Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson and senior officers responsible for works to discuss the dilapidated Stabroek Market Wharf.

A release yesterday from the Council said that the Minister was very empathetic with the Council and gave a commitment to help the City Council to correct the situation at the wharf.

Senior officers of works would be assigned to work with the Council to help salvage the wharf from further deterioration.   Urgent repair works to the wharf should commence shortly, the release said. In another week, the Council would be meeting with vendors who operate in the area to discussion the process of relocation to facilitate urgent repairs to the structure.

Sections of the wharf collapsed in March this year posing a danger to vendors around. Last year, another section of the wharf also collapsed.
