Salesman on fraud charge over fuel pumps sale

A salesman was granted $150,000 bail yesterday after he denied fraudulently converting two fuel pumps that he was entrusted with to his own use and benefit.

Ramotar Rampersaud, 43, of Lot 49 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to a charge of fraudulent conversion when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court 2 before Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It is alleged that on February 3rd, 2015, at Georgetown, Rampersaud was entrusted by Eon Rodrigues with two fuel pumps, worth $250,000, in order to sell but he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones did not object to bail but asked that it be a substantial amount. He told the court that after the defendant was arrested, he confessed to the police that he had the items but asked for some time to return them to the owner.

When asked what he did with the fuels pumps, the unrepresented Rampersaud told the court, “I give a man to sell it and the man live in another country and ain’t come down yet.”

Bail was set at a sum of $200,000 but after Rampersaud pleaded for a reduction, the magistrate reduced the amount to $150,000 and adjourned the matter to August 4th.
