Two refused bail over series of Rupununi break-ins

Two men, who police say were involved in several break-and-enter offences across Central Rupununi were remanded to prison after both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Don Peters, 29, and Michael McDonald, 20, both of St Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, Esse-quibo were charged on Friday with breaking and entering two businesses and stealing a number of items valued $298,080 between June 20 and July 25.

McDonald was also separately charged with breaking and entering the home of Teresa Rampersaud and stealing several items valued $217,000 on July 25.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones stated that the items were recovered in the defendants’ apartment.

Both defendants were remanded to prison until September 7 and the matter was transferred to Lethem Magistrates’ Court.
