Mahdia brothers refused bail on wounding charge

Two brothers who police say injured a man in Campbelltown, Mahdia, on August 2, were yesterday remanded to prison by a city magistrate.

John Gabriel, 17 and Mark Gabriel, 19, both of Campbelltown, Mahdia, were charged with unlawfully and maliciously wounding Leon Fredericks with intent to cause bodily harm.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that the defendants had an altercation with Fredericks where they brutally beat and injured him. Jones objected to bail and stated that Fredericks is still in the Mahdia District Hospital due to the severity of the injuries.

The defendants were remanded to prison until October 19, and the matter was transferred to the Mahdia Magistrates’ Court.
