Mason on bail after denying stealing chain

A mason was placed on bail on Tuesday after he denied robbing a man of a chain.

Andre Fernandes, 27, of Lot 243 Back Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery when he was arraigned at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

Fernandes was accused of robbing Naithram Sukhna of a silver chain, valued at $45,000, on August 2nd at Vryheid’s Lust.

The prosecution’s case is that on the night in question, Sukhna was exiting a bar when he was confronted by Fernandes and a group of men.

The police say an argument ensued between the two individuals after which Fernandes slapped Sukhna to his chest multiple times and relieved him of the chain that he was wearing. The matter was reported to the police and Fernandes was arrested sometime after and charged.

Magistrate Zamilla Ally placed Fernandes on $75,000 bail and fixed September 11, 2015 as his next court date.
