No bail for accused in alleged $1M tyres scam

Arnold Neville was on Thursday remanded to prison after being charged with forgery and conspiring to defraud a business of over $1M in tyres.

It is alleged that on July 15th, Neville conspired with others to defraud Action Tyre of 12 R20 Goodyear tyres, valued $1,040,000.

Additionally, Neville was charged with uttering a forged Republic Bank draft in the name of Alleyne’s Mining, dated July 12th, for $140,000 to Gianni Elton.

Making an application for bail, attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat stated that his client would be willing to adhere to all stipulations ordered by the court until the completion of his trial.

However, Neville was remanded to prison until August 13th, when the matter will be called again.

Meanwhile, a clothes vendor was released on $175,000 bail after being charged with fraudulent conversion.

Dwayne King pleaded not guilty to a charge that he fraudulently converted $450,000 that was entrusted to him by Quacy Maynard. The money was reportedly given to him for the purchase of a car part, however, he allegedly used it for his own purposes.

With no objections to bail from the prosecution, Magistrate Ann McLennan set bail at $175,000. King is expected to return to court on August 24th.
