As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Wednesday sashed 19 ranks who will be vying for the Miss Guyana Defence Force 2015 title.
According to a press release from the army, the female soldiers, representing various Units, Sub-Units and Departments of the GDF, will be participating in a pageant that is about more than pomp and ceremony.
Commanding Officer of the Women Army Corps (WAC) Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Natasha Standford, in her remarks at the sashing, explained that, “the Miss GDF Pageant is not only a beauty pageant but rather an organised showcase of the physical fitness, marksmanship skills, talent, poise and eloquence of a military woman.”
The ceremony saw the young women complete the first of five activities.
They will also be engaged in a Talent Competition on September 10th, 2015. This will be followed by a Run and Shoot Competition from September 24th to 25th. In this competition, the delegates’ physical fitness and marksmanship abilities will be tested. Later, on October 23rd, the delegates will face off in a swimsuit Competition.
The grand coronation event is set for October 23rd, 2015, at the National Cultural Centre.
This event will see the delegates compete in evening wear and battle for high scores in the intelligence segment.
