Colwyn Harding assault trial adjourned until September 21st

The trial of the two police constables accused of assaulting detainee Colwyn Harding was once more adjourned yesterday.

The proceedings against Roselle Tilbury-Douglas and Devin Singh were set to continue yesterday at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. However, the matter was adjourned to September 21st, 2015 by Magistrate Leron Daly after she acknowledged the recent accident that claimed the life of the mother of special prosecutor Nigel Hughes.

Tilbury-Douglas, of Alliance Road, Timheri, East Bank Demerara, and Singh, of Lot 125 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, were jointly charged with assaulting Harding between November 1 and November 13, 2013, at the Timehri Police Station. Singh is also charged with a separate assault on Harding. Harding has alleged that a condom-covered baton was rammed up his anus and he was further physically assaulted by police.
