Accused in smartphone theft on bail

A mason who is accused of stealing a smartphone was yesterday placed on bail and a bond after proclaiming his innocence.

Affiba Yankana, 26, of ‘P’ Half, Hadfield Street, is accused of stealing a Samsung Galaxy S5, valued $120,000, from Derrick Hope. The cellphone was the property of Brandole McDonald, who appeared in court yesterday.

Yankana pleaded not guilty to the charge.

After the prosecutor did not object, Magistrate Ann McLennan set bail for Yankana at $75,000 and placed him on a bond to be on good behaviour. The matter has been adjourned to September 10th.
