Ex-cop further remanded over Ruby murder

Ex-policeman Ruel Brandon was further remanded when he appeared at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court yesterday over the murder of Davonan Sookram of Philadelphia, East Bank Essequibo.

Sookram’s decomposing body was found along the access road at Ruby, East Bank Essequibo on Friday, July 31, four days after he went missing.

The court heard that Brandon, 30, a taxi driver, reportedly committed the offence between July 27th and July 31st, at Ruby.

According to police reports, Brandon who was familiar with Sookram and his family collected him from his home on July 27th and he was never seen alive again.

Sookram’s wife had reported him missing and on July 31st and she was speaking to the police at the Parika station when they received information that a body was found.

She accompanied a team of officers and immediately recognized it to be her husband’s from the clothes he was wearing. The woman had said that a small amount of cash and his blackberry cell phone were missing.
