Young miners charged over fatal North West chopping

Two young miners were yesterday charged with killing an unidentified man in the North West District.

Eon Scott and Junior Henry appeared before city magistrate Ann McLennan charged with unlawfully killing the man, identified only as ‘Andrew,’ on August 16th at Nasano Backdam, North West District.

No particulars were given by the prosecution but Stabroek News was told that the fatal encounter had its genesis in ‘Andrew’ sexually assaulting a female connected to one of the men. After hearing the news, the two men rushed to defend the woman and ‘Andrew’ was chopped about the body.

Scott, 19, and Henry, 20, were not required to enter pleas to the indictable charge.

They were remanded to prison and the case was subsequently transferred to the Matthew’s Ridge Magistrate’s Court for a hearing on November 2nd.

Meanwhile, police are still seeking the public’s assistance to identify Andrew and another man, who police suspect is Clifton Chappelle and who was discovered at Sanano Backdam, also in the North West District.

Relatives of the men are urged to come forward to confirm their identities.

The police can be contacted on telephone numbers 226-1333, 225-2722, 225-6411, 225-8196, 911 or at the nearest police station.
