Man appears in court over Tiger Bay murder

Christopher Stanley yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with Saturday’s fatal stabbing in Tiger Bay.

It is alleged that on August 29, he murdered Owen Browne. No other particulars of the case were read in court.

Stanley, who appeared before Magis-trate Ann McLennan, stood in the prisoners’ dock with a blank expression on his face as the charge was read to him. He was not required to plead to the charge.

Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones noted that the police file is still incomplete as the alleged murder weapon has been sent for fingerprint analysis.

As a result, the unrepresented man will remain on remand until his next court appearance which would be on September, 15, before Magistrate Judy Latchman.

Browne, called `Red Cap’ and `Rasta Man’, was allegedly stabbed over 40 times by Stanley, who was in a fit of rage at the time.

Residents and Stanley’s family said he had started to “trip out” about six months ago but refused to seek help for his episodes.

Prior to Saturday’s fatal attack, Stanley had been seen sharpening a knife, which is believed to have been the murder weapon. Stanley had also allegedly attacked another man and chopped him in his head.

The suspected murder weapon—a knife—was found under a bed in Stanley’s home while blood was also found in the bathroom.

Browne, a father of 12, reportedly celebrated his 49th birthday one day prior to his death.
