A motorcyclist is now hospitalised with a broken leg after he was struck by a car while riding in the city on Thursday.
Dwayne Hicks, 23, a former policeman of 41 Middle Street,
Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was reportedly hit because the driver, who was proceeding behind another vehicle, did not spot him before.
A relative told Stabroek News that after Hicks was hit he was rushed to the Woodlands Hospital by the driver who hit him. However, upon Hicks’ request, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
“Nobody was there but what we heard is that another vehicle, which was driven by a woman, was in front of the vehicle that hit Dwayne,” the relative, who asked not to be named, said. Hicks’ family members were told that the female driver turned and the driver behind her did not immediately see the approaching Hicks and hit him.
Hicks’ relatives said the driver had been fully cooperating with the police.
