Accused cocaine mule denies trafficking charge after airport bust

Shanda Nichols, who was allegedly busted at the Ogle International Airport with cocaine, denied a charge of possession of narcotics for trafficking when she appeared in a city court yesterday.

Nichols, 20, of 36 Sussex Street, Charlestown, appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan to face a charge that she had 460 grammes of cocaine in her possession on September 4, at the Ogle International Airport, where she was an outbound passenger.

Nichols, who was charged with possession of narcotics with the intent to traffic, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The drugs were reportedly strapped to Nichols’ body as well as inserted in her vagina.

The accused was defended by attorney Dexter Todd, who made an application for an early date to be granted for trial.

The case was adjourned by Magistrate McLennan to September 18, when it is to be called at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
