Press association offers condolences on death of Ramdayal

The Guyana Press Association (GPA) has extended deepest condolences to the immediate family and friends of journalist Ursulla Ramdayal, who died yesterday.

In statement issued yesterday, the GPA said the passing of Ramdayal was a stark reminder of the need for journalists to be our brothers and sisters keepers in this fraternity. It went on to say that while many had lost touch with her in the past months, her work throughout the media did not go unnoticed.

Ramdayal’s career with the media started at the Guyana Chronicle where she was a proofreader from 1996 until 2009. She also served as a freelance writer for the Sunday edition of the Guyana Chronicle and as a legal clerk/secretary to the programme manager of the then Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). Her posts also included freelance announcer/operator/producer for the GBC and trainee operator/video editor at Channel 12. She also served as the editor of Video Production and the Programme Producer of CNS 6 where she later became a news editor, anchor and producer, the release said.

Ramdayal would later move to the Evening News at VCT Channel 28, where she was a senior reporter and newsroom editor and then to GWTV Channel 2 where she served as the editor-in-chief. Her last post was communications officer at the Government Information Agency (GINA) in 2011 where she remained until July 2015.

Ramdayal, a mother of three, resided at Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara, the release said.
