Autopsy confirms Brazilian was murdered

A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of Brazilian Josi Mar Perreira Silva, who was found dead in a gold mining camp at Mowasi Backdam, Mahdia, has confirmed that he was murdered.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said yesterday that the cause of death has been given as blunt trauma to the head. When the 51-year-old Silva was discovered on Sunday, there was a wound above his eye.

Police had arrested two persons. Blanhum informed yesterday that they were released on bail after statements were taken. Detectives, he said, are pursuing other persons.

A gold mat was found to be missing from the camp and police are working with the theory that the man was killed during a robbery.
