Burglary accused stole woman’s underwear

– court hears

A Kitty man accused of breaking into a woman’s home and stealing, among other items, her underwear and slippers, was on Thursday remanded to prison by a city magistrate.

Mark Peters, 40, of Lot 40 Da Silva Street, Newtown, Kitty, was charged with breaking and entering the house of Susan Haley, and stealing a hair dryer, a curling iron, a pair of underwear, a gas bottle, a pair of sunglasses, a wallet, a helmet, six pieces of cloth, a pair of slippers and a bath and body works set. The total value of the items taken is $71,000.

Peters, who told the court he was previously a cook in the interior, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Deniro Jones stated that all the stolen items were recovered. He explained that after the break-in, an alarm was raised and Peters was arrested with the items in his possession. Jones objected to bail being granted to Peters on account of the fact that the man had not given a fixed place of abode to the police.

Magistrate Ann McLennan adjourned the matter to September 16th and ordered that Peters be remanded until that date.
