Police stop uncovered cocaine on Montrose cyclist – court hears

A stop and search landed a Montrose man before a court on Friday facing a drug trafficking charge.

Victor Lam pleaded not guilty at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with having a gramme of cocaine in his possession for trafficking.

Police say Lam, of Broad Street, Montrose, East Coast Demerara, was riding a bicycle on the road when police on patrol stopped him. After the police stopped Lam, they say he started to act in a suspicious manner and as a result they searched him. A white substance, later confirmed to be cocaine, was found in his left pocket and he was subsequently told of the offence.

It is alleged that Lam then told the police, “Give me a chance nah?”

The prosecution objected to bail and Lam was remanded to prison until October 29th by Magistrate Zamilla Ally.
