New nursing home opened at Le Ressouvenir

A brand new nursing home offering on site activities such as a gym, library and a cinema, opens its doors today on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of International Day of Older Persons, according to a press release.

Demerara Paradise Inc, a nursing home and medical services facility located at Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara (ECD), the release said, offers some of the best nurses and patient advocates to provide a 24-hour service. Further the release stated, the home has available rooms to meet the needs and desires of all patients, including private rooms which can accommodate visiting family members.

This is a first for Guyana.

The release noted that one of the most important things that can be done to stay healthy in one’s golden years is to maintain a sense of purpose by staying connected to people and things that matter and this is precisely the kind of experience that Demerara Paradise Inc, under the leadership and vision of its Director Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan, offers.

Dr Bridgemohan is the former Chief Executive Officer of the St Joseph Mercy Hospital. He earned his medical degree from the Latin American School of Medicine in Cuba in June 2010 and served as medical superintendent at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. He has worked at 10 hospitals in more than 5 regions in Guyana.

An official opening ceremony of the nursing home is slated for October 24.

The release noted that this year’s celebration of International Day of Older Persons is being held in anticipation of the third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat (III) set for next year.

According to the release, it will focus not only on the impact of the new urban environment on older persons, but also the impact of older persons on the new urban environment.

 

The 2015 International Day of Older Persons celebration seeks to demonstrate that an age inclusive agenda is crucial for sustainable urban environments to promote equity, welfare and shared prosperity for all.
