Four cops charged over $6M ‘cocaine bus’ bribe

Four police officers were charged today in connection with the $6 million cocaine bribe allegation and three were remanded to prison while one was released on $250,000 bail.

Constables Trevor McKenzie, 26, of Princeton, Corentyne, Berbice; Shawn McFoy, 42, of 174 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, and Ray Saul, 27, of Corentyne, Berbice were jointly charged with corruptly collecting an inducement before Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and remanded to prison.

Assistant Superintendent Terrence Browne, 48, of 273 Sisters Village, Berbice was later charged separately. He was accused of accepting a sum of money from McFoy as inducement for not arresting the bus and its occupants.

Magistrate McLennan placed Browne on $250,000 bail and ordered him to submit his passport until the end of the trial.

They all return to court on October 12 at Whim Magistrate’s Court.
