Six more fined after admitting to drunk driving

Six more persons have been fined for driving under the influence after they were intercepted by police between the period of August 9 and August 17.

They are Clint Bastian, of Good Hope, East Coast Demerara, Mohamed Ally, of Number 71 Village, Corentyne, Raymond Roopnauth, of Number 64 Village, Corentyne, Arjune Samlall, of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, Amier Rahaman, of Number 64 Village, Corentyne and Denesh Makhanlall, of Number 68 Village, Corentyne, the police force said in a press statement on Wednesday.

20151002SixClint Bastian, who was riding a motorcycle on Carmichael Street, Georgetown, was stopped and tested with a breathalyser on August 12. He was found to have alcohol in his system that was above the legal limit.

Ally, who was driving on the Number 62 Public Road, Corentyne, on August 15 was also stopped and tested with a breathalyser and he too was found to have more than the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Roopnauth was stopped while driving on the Number 51 Public Road, Corentyne and tested with a breathalyser on August 9. Samlall, the police said, was stopped and tested with a breathalyser on August 15 on the Number 62 Public Road, Corentyne. Rahaman was also stopped on August 15 while driving on the Number 62 Public Road, Corentyne. They were each found to have consumed more than the legal amount of alcohol.

They were all charged driving under the influence and they were each fined $7,500 after pleading guilty to the crime.
