Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan has gazetted November 10 as the official holiday for the Hindu festival of Diwali.
The notice which appeared in today’s Sunday Chronicle comes amid a dispute between two sections of the Hindu community on the date. A leading Hindu group, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has said that the date is November 11. This has however been disputed by other groups.
