Pouderoyen family relieved at arrests of suspected bandits

The Sookram family of Samaroo Dam, Poudero-yen, is relieved that police have arrested five persons who are believed to have terrorised and robbed them during a home invasion on Thursday.

A police press release stated that the diligent works of ‘D’ Division ranks will see the five perpetrators who carried out the armed robbery on the Sookrams charged and placed before the court.

Andy Sookram, 54, his wife, Esardai Sookram, 47, and their son, Andrew Sookram, 18, of 82 Samaroo Dam, Poudero-yen, West Bank Demerara, were in their home when five men, including one armed with a gun, barged in. They were beaten and tied up and the bandits ransacked their two-storey house before escaping with two generators, a weeding machine, eight gold rings, two gas cylinders, and four cell phones.

Just after the robbery, a suspect from Georgetown was held.
