Couple found dead on Kingston seawall

The bodies of a man and a woman were yesterday afternoon discovered on the Kingston seawall in the vicinity of Pegasus Hotel and police believe, pending further investigations that they are dealing with a double suicide.

Up to press time last night, the bodies were at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting identification.

According to reports reaching Stabroek News, the two people, who appeared to be in their early 20’s and of East Indian descent were last seen alive around 2 pm yesterday in the same area by passersby.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum informed this newspaper that the police received a call around 5 pm yesterday, alerting them that there were two bodies lying on the seawall. As a result, he said, investigators made their way to the scene where the fully clothed bodies were found. They bore no visible marks of violence.

According to Blanhum, ranks retrieved a receipt from the right side pants pocket of the man, which indicated that two poisonous substances had been purchased. Police did not divulge where the substances were purchased nor the names of the poisons.

Meanwhile, speaking to this newspaper yesterday, a man who preferred to remain anonymous, said he was heading home on foot from work around 5 pm yesterday, using a route that took him past the Kingston seawall, when he spotted the lifeless bodies between the rocks. As a result, he said, he immediately informed police officers who were on patrol at the time and they informed higher authorities

A number of persons flocked the scene late yesterday afternoon, viewing the bodies in disbelief.

At the time of the discovery, the man was clad in a black pair of jeans, a white vest and a pair of black shoes with socks. The woman was wearing a pair of lime green jeans and a black t-shirt.
