Greenidge concludes trip to deepen ties with Barbados

A Guyanese delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Carl Greenidge recently concluded a series of meetings in Barbados to deepen relations between the two countries.

Minister of Governance Raphael Trotman told a post-Cabinet press briefing yesterday that Greenidge reported to Cabinet that there was an agreement on a number of projects as well as the deepening of relations between the two countries.

Greenidge, he said, was able to brief his counterpart in Barbados on ongoing developments in Guyana, including issues related to the Guyana/Venezuela border controversy.

According to Trotman, Greenidge also held meetings with the Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart and with relevant ministers, including the Minister of Education, on matters dealing with CXC and education in general.

“We were quite happy with what we saw as a warming up… we believe that following this meeting relations are going to become even closer and warmer,” Trotman said, while adding that the Government of Guyana is looking forward to sharing successful projects with Barbados in the areas of maritime cooperation and tourism.

The Guyana delegation, which was supported by the Consular officer and staff in Barbados, also included Foreign Ministry Director General Audrey Waddell.
