Mahaicony robbery suspect linked to Linden murder

One of the suspects in Wednesday’s Mahaicony Supermarket robbery has been identified as a suspect in a robbery/murder than took place in Linden in April.

According to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, while the 21-year-old suspect gave the police an incorrect name, ranks in Linden were able to identify the man from a photo that has been circulating on social media.

Four bandits posing as customers had held the owners of J Singh Supermarket in Le Raisonable, Mahaicony at gunpoint and robbed them of cash and jewellery. They also stole the supermarket’s owner’s vehicle.

After an alarm was raised, residents of the area gave chase and the bandits lost control of the car, crashing into a nearby trench.

One of them was apprehended immediately after the crash, while the other three took cover in the nearby bushes.

Valiant efforts by residents and the police ended with the capture of two other men. A fourth man remains at large.
