GPL explains East Bank blackouts

The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) yesterday said that residents along the East Bank Demerara corridor stretching from Industrial Site to Hope experienced intermittent outages on Tuesday due to several trips of two main feeders supplied by the new Georgetown and Grove Substations.

A release from GPL said that the first trip occurred at 9:47 hrs and the last at 21:47hrs as efforts were made to identify the section(s) of the feeder(s) within which the faults occurred. In both instances, the faults were finally identified on branch circuits of the feeders. GPL said that a review of its protective scheme is being carried out as the failure of branch protection to isolate the faulty areas contributed to the number of blackouts.

GPL apologised for the inconvenience caused.
